Expropriation Cargill a rice processing

CARACAS, Venezuela - President Hugo Chavez has ordered the expropriation of a rice-processing plant in Venezuela owned by Minneapolis-based Cargill because the company allegedly was not distributing rice at regulated prices imposed by the government.

Chavez says Cargill¨s processing plant in Portuguesa state violated Venezuelan laws by distributing rice without printing the regulated price on its packages.

The socialist leader told Agriculture Minister Elias Jaua on Wednesday to ?begin the expropriation process.?

Chavez said that inspectors would be sent to Cargill?s plant to make sure the company produces standard white rice that falls under government price controls.
